AQVA LIS LIS

My time was almost up, I knew the lights were dimming too,

Both in my eyes and in the sky, as darkness promised to consume.

My baby stole a kiss, and I watched terror flood her face,

As if the chill of death upon my lips was something she could taste.

Through glassy eyes, she told me she knew something that would help,

An ancient song, to stay the hand of fate, and make me well…

But the secret lyrics would commit our spirits to the deepest pits of Hell.

I asked her just to let me hold her hand. I wanted to move on. Like they say the brave ones can.

I told her I was ready, though I lied. I wanted us to find our peace, before our last goodbye.

Minutes passed this way before she dared to lift her head.

But when she did, in a breathless whisper, my  baby said:

“Boun Boun, Aqva Lis Lis, Bai Bai.  Boun Boun, Aqva Lis Lis, Bai Bai.”

She clenched her crucifix, and placed my hand between her shaking thighs,

“Boun Boun, Aqva Lis Lis, Bai Bai.  Boun Boun, Aqva Lis Lis, Bai Bai.”

We cried together, before she closed her eyes.

“Boun Boun, Aqva Lis Lis, Bai Bai.”

And it hit me, so quickly. My pulse was jumping, my heart was thumping.

I saw colors I had never seen before, the radiance of an unknown dawn,

Endless sunrise, bounding forth, within the inner outer space of my own mind.

“Boun Boun, Aqva Lis Lis, Bai Bai.”

My baby’s voice, still sweeter than all these sights.

My concsiousness awash with waves of purifying light.

I could hear the heartbeat of the Earth,

An… ancient song.

“Boun Boun, Aqva Lis Lis, Bai Bai.”

I opened my eyes, I looked to my side,

My baby was gone.
